About Pete
In May 2012 I was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. This news was quite a shock for me and had to quickly come to terms with what was going to happen next.
After I was diagnosed, the chemotherapy treatment started in June. This involved eight sessions on a drip at University College Hospital in Euston, with high doses of chemicals being pumped into my system. If I hadn’t had the chemotherapy treatment, I would have been dead in six months due to the aggressiveness of the cancer I had.
Unfortunately, the chemotherapy isn’t a panacea and in October of the same year, my right leg had to be amputated below the knee. This operation wasn’t the end of the medical intervention and I had to undergo more chemotherapy to eliminate all traces of any remaining cancer as well as intensive physiotherapy to help my rehabilitation.
I thought I might have at least a few days of rest after the surgery but they had me up doing physio the day after the operation. I was told it was best for both mind and body to get straight into it as soon as I can. I was also very keen to get back to normality as quickly as possible so I didn’t complain.
Just over three months after the operation, in January 2013, I was fitted with my first prosthetic leg. This gave me the opportunity to gain some freedom, some independence from crutches and something to do with that “other” trainer.
In October 2014 - I'd be doing so well, I'd been having some back issues which i put down to over compensating with my leg. I had a fall at home in August and was told i'd slipped a disc, it didn't get better so my consultant sent me for an MRI Scan. Friday 3rd October my life turn upside down again..
My Cancer has returned i have two tumours, one in spine and other in hip. The Consultant has told me that it isn't curable and I will be having more Chemo week commencing 27th October, this has come as a huge shock to me but those that know me know I will fight this till the end.
I want to thank everyone for their continued support and I remain to believe that "Hope is the only thing stronger than fear"
